Training on Early Childhood Development (ECD) |
 |
|
By establishing innovative and sustainable child care centers Phulki has began to tackle a wide and diverse need for childcare centers. In order to the demand to be met it has been necessary for Phulki to share its experience with other organizations and individuals so that they might extend childcare services. We noted the shortage of trained caregivers with knowledge of early childhood development. In order to rectify this issue Phulki established a training centre to provide Training course. Phulki provide 2 kinds of training on Early Childhood Development. Those are
Basic Training: It a ‘15 days training program'. Phulki provide it in 2 ways.
-
Day Care Management Training: It is a ‘5 days training program'. Phulki provide it only for those which want to get it and the organization has to pay for the training.

Child to Child Approach |
 |
|
Phulki is the first organization in Bangladesh to put into practice the innovative Child to Child (CTC) Approach that was initially conceived by London Child to Child Trust and then adopted by Phulki in 1993.
Child to Child Approach is an innovative educational methodology through which children learn by themselves to work together and help each other. It is also pertinent to the process of social transformation because it plays an important role in changing the harmful traditional hygiene practices of children and their families in order to provide them with adequate information regarding different health and hygiene issues and also some other child rights related issues.
The Child to Child Approach is a highly effective methodology in creating awareness and promoting positive behavioral practices among slum households. In response to significant interest about the CTC approach, Phulki established a Training, Resource and Innovation Center where interested organization are given training.
The key principle of this approach is the understanding of the central role of older children who look after their younger siblings. Phulki do it step by step, like-
-
At first, Phulki make a group of 10 children or child leaders, who are between 8-11 years. They receive information on preventive health care, personal and environmental hygiene, nutrition, immunization, safe water and sanitary practices, child rights, gender issues etc.
-
Then, each of these children is assigned to pass on this information to 10 of his or her siblings and friends. They must also involve friends' families and their own family in the learning and action. In this way children mobilize their communities and take initiatives to improve their own living conditions.

Child Leaders |
Phulki first initiated the CTC approach in Dhaka, in the Sweeper Colony of Gulshan Taltala Park in 1993 and replicated in Kallyanpur Pora Bosti (a big slum of Dhaka city) in 1996. These two areas are typical urban slums of Dhaka City . The Kallayanpur activity is now being replicated in the Mirpur camp area of Dhaka city.
With these experiences, in 2005, Phulki has introduced the CTC approach in government primary schools of Dhaka city through awareness raising sessions on child rights, hygiene and other related issues.
Currently, 380 child leaders and 3800 friends are receiving CTC training If any organization wants to replicate this model they can contact with Phulki.
